Tattoos, which are a very common form of modification in this subculture, have been around for well over 10,000 years. "The oldest documented tattoos belong to Otzi the Iceman, whose preserved body was discovered in the Alps between Austria and Italy in 1991", saysprofessor Nina Jablonski, head of Penn State's anthropology department and author of Skin: A Natural History.
